Final stretch to COP21! As world giants and busybody lobbyists bustle on the sidelines of official venues, Makery decided to go out and meet those whom the lockdown has failed to silence.

Now through December 12, the editorial team will be in the field, listening to hacktivists and citizens, reporting on actions in the margins of the imposed doctrine.

Makers and eco-hackers out in force for Zone d’action climat (ZAC) at 104, the temporary headquarters of Coalition 21 (December 7-11), uniting 130 actors of civil society.

Participants of the Global Village of Alternatives in Montreuil during the Citizen Climate Summit on December 5-6, two days of popular celebration and good old-fashioned resistance to talk about thorny issues.

Of course, we won’t ignore the resurgent DIY resistance movements encountered on the sidelines of the more or less hermetically sealed institutional events. Victims of Solutions COP21‘s greenwashing at the Grand Palais, alt-players were promptly removed from the scene at its opening on December 4. Reporterre journalists covered about it here, including soundbytes of eye-witness accounts from photographers and journalists who were apprehended on the day.

We will also follow all actions, however scattered, manifold and spontaneous, that swarm around both official and unofficial programs.

All this week, you will find on our dedicated site all our raves and rants, reactions of those engaged and reports of offbeat initiatives.

But Makery didn’t wait for COP to talk about DIY solutions to climate change. We already met Rob Hopkins, high figure of the permaculture movement and promoter of cities in transition. We followed the artist Tomás Saraceno far into the New Mexico desert to launch the world’s first zero carbon solar-powered hot air balloon.

We also attended the preparation of Climate Games concocted by the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination to engage the public in hacktivist climatic justice. We examined POC21 prototypes up close. Short of listing our comprehensive ongoing inventory, click here for our archive of articles about initiatives leading up to COP21.

During this time, we will be listening to your own reports of actions from the maker movement, always a reliable source of sustainable and re-humanized solutions to combat climate change. Send your questions, comments and posts to info@makery.fr and @makeryfr.
