Makesound: the 212 Promac workbench drill

When the artist Jean-Philippe Renoult takes an interest in makers’ machines, a whole soundscape emerges. In the limelight of Makesound, his binaural sound series for Makery, a professional drill. Headphones highly recommended!

Not really digital, the 212 workbench drill of the Promac brand from Carrefour Numérique in Paris, 19th arrondissement, is a multi-purpose pillar, in any case essential for all precision drilling.

Here, Geoffrey is machining a thin piece of metal (by manually pulling down the spindle). Listen to the dialogue with harmonium litanies… So yes, one could say I cheated, since the harmonium is not a sound from the Cité des Sciences fablab. However, I find it has a nice presence that tempers the ardors of the mad machine tool (that, empty, produces a sound level of 70 dB…).
